Hello! My name is Emma Lavery, I study Fashion Management in the Belfast Metropolitan College currently in my 2nd year of Bsc course. I also work part time in New Look which keeps me up to date with current trends while also giving me a good understanding of the fashion retail industry. I started my creative studying with Art and Design, I generally enjoyed art in school which led me to take up an Art and Design foundation course in Liverpool Hope University. It was this course that allowed me to discover what I really wanted to do with my life. I kept swaying towards design in all my projects and it was an independent project which highlighted my interest in fashion. I had a memory box of my time so far in Liverpool full of tickets for trains, nightclubs, museums aswell as stamps that I kept from letters sent from home. Researching into patterns made from stamps led me to discover an era of paper fashion in the 1960s…and my enthusiasm for fashion was born.
My course at Belfast Met combined with work experience positions, I have gained a grasp of how the fashion industry works. I love marketing, designing, dress making but most of all I have found a passion for writing and researching fashion. It’s a lovely thought that behind every design is an inspiration and behind every inspiration is a story, that’s what I like to write about. I previously blogged for studenty.me but have decided to bite the bullet and start my own, so here it is…Kooky Miss Match.
Kooky Miss Match explained: The name generally sums up my personality. I absolutely adore stylishly miss matching prints. Dress to please yourself and your own personality not to satisfy passers-by, no matter how Kooky you are!
